In our very first issue of 2017 check out some magic on ice, meet the shop dogs (and cats) at local, pet-friendly shops, and more!

Local artist and photographer Deb Zeller is no stranger to this Last Glance page of Lake Minnetonka Magazine; her photos have appeared here several times over the last few years.

Walk in to Maggie’s Family Restaurant in Wayzata on a busy Saturday morning, and you might not know what year it is.

One of the largest annual festivals on Shorewood’s side of Lake Minnetonka is Arctic Fever, a celebration of Minnesota’s unique winter charm and favorite (chilly!) outdoor activities.

If you’re a pet owner, you know how tough it is to leave your furry family member at home when you go out to grab dinner or run errands. You’re in luck! Turns out there’s a plethora of pet-friendly establishments in the lake area, so you don’t have to spend one more second apart.

From tiki bars and bonfires pulled along on four wheelers, to a rodeo bull and local residents dressed up in crazy costumes, Andy Fazendin has seen it all—well, probably. There’s always this year.

You could say that Jodi McKee’s love for plants and herbal medicine is a family matter. While her parents were avid gardeners throughout her childhood, McKee didn’t begin to truly explore the potential of plants until her own son began experiencing health problems.

When she began painting images from family slides she inherited, artist Francene Christianson captured familiar moments in time that resonated with her viewers.

In the past nine years, Excelsior resident Sandra Frimerman-Bergquist has seen more of Lake Minnetonka than most people see in their lifetimes.

Her method? Open-water swimming.

In 2016, Doris Crawford, the owner of Soul of the Rose Floral and event planning service Lake Minnetonka Area Event Professionals (LMAEP), launched the first-ever Lake Minnetonka Wedding Expo.

After 25 years in the industry, nationally recognized fitness expert Chris Freytag has developed a platform to take away any excuse for not getting moving. Freytag, who lives in Wayzata, has been starring in workout videos for 20 years, and is locally known for her expert spots on KARE 11.

Leaving pets behind can be one of the worst parts of vacation. While boarding the plane, embarking on the road trip, or heading up north to the cabin, guilt tends to sink in.

Minnetonka’s Kelsey Vercruysse danced her way through high school and college, has been coaching for 10 years (including for Minnetonka High School’s performance dance team), and decided to start her own studio, Just for Kix.

Excelsior Commons Beach is where we often like to soak up the rays during the warm summer months. But don’t forget—we can enjoy the beloved beach all year ’round.
